Start of Summer

I had such a great fifth year teaching first grade in my new school in Vermont. I had 15 great first graders that I got to spend a year with. Some people will think I'm a bit nutty for writing this, but each year I have a bit of a hard time adjusting to the summer months. I just find that it's hard for me to go from having to carefully plan my bathroom breaks, scarf down my lunch in record time, accidentally sign checks with Miss instead of my first name once a week, wake up at 3 a.m. remembering something I need to write on my "to do" list, say "Use wise choices." and " Does that look and sound like T.K.N.S?", to very limited demands and responsibilities.

I'm sure it would be a very different feeling if I had children of my own or I had a second job in the summer. However, I've traveled back to New York this summer to visit with my family, friends, and boyfriend. Therefore, I am taking the summer off. I'm not doing summer school this year (which is a lot of fun) or taking college classes for once.

I'm thinking that a goal list or schedule would help me greatly! I mean, really, what is one thing teachers do best? They stay organized, on task, and use every minute they have in their schedule to the maximum potential!

My goal list so far:

1.) Learn how to cook 7 meals well. (This has been on my goal list for the past 4 summers! My family keeps giving me cookbooks as oh, so subtle hints! I'm really hoping my dad can help me on this one.)

2.) Laugh myself silly through Zumba with my cousin Katie!

3.) Continue to learn how to sew. (My mom has already signed me up for classes, so I'm thinking I may not have too much choice in this one. :)
